FAQ

WHAT MAKES AN EARLY PEEK ULTRASOUND UNIQUE?

At An Early Peek Ultrasound we offer the best in technology and in service. Our sonographers are warm, friendly, and personal. We understand that no two pregnancies are alike, which is why we provide each individual with the type of personalized care that we would give our own family.

Using state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, we are able to obtain the best-possible imaging of your baby. The GE Voluson 730 Pro® ultrasound system that we use has the capability to process images with a real-time display, without the typical jerkiness and lag time of earlier equipment. This provides you with a smoother video experience, both in session on our 72” digital display, and afterward, at home, on the DVD that we provide you with.

Our licensed registered diagnostic medical sonographer has many years of experience in obstetrical ultrasound. This ensures not only professional operating standards, but also optimal imaging of the baby in an efficient, timely manner, so that none of your session time is wasted.

At An Early Peek Ultrasound, we strive to make your visit an enjoyable and relaxing experience, with friendly staff in a warm and comfortable setting. To add to your ultrasound experience, we encourage you to bring family and friends along!
WHAT IS FOUR-DIMENSIONAL (4D) ULTRASOUND?

The fourth dimension is time, which means that your baby can be viewed in real time. You will see your baby moving, and with a little luck, you might catch a yawn, a hiccup, blinking, or even thumb sucking.
WHEN DURING MY PREGNANCY IS THE BEST TIME FOR AN ULTRASOUND SESSIONS?

For gender determination, images are obtained after 16 weeks of pregnancy. They are performed in 2D mode, which is the best way to view the baby’s entire body, as it is small enough to fit on the screen.

3D and 4D images are taken after 28 weeks of pregnancy, with ideal images obtained between 29 and 33 weeks of gestation. At this point in pregnancy, your baby’s features will best resemble those that will be present at birth. Although we recommend the mentioned timeframes, we have successfully performed 4D scans as early as 26 weeks and as late as 28 weeks, for those wishing to view their baby at different stages of pregnancy.

Image quality varies from scan to scan, depending on many factors, including fetal position, placenta location, amniotic fluid volume in front of the baby’s face, and maternal body habitus. For this reason, the quality of images cannot be guaranteed, but every attempt will be made to obtain ideal images of your baby’s face.
WHAT IF MY BABY DOES NOT COOPERATE DURING THE ULTRASOUND SESSION?

If your baby is facing the wrong way or is hiding their face and we are unsuccessful in getting your baby to turn, we will reschedule your appointment for another day at no additional charge.
PARENT AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDER UNDERSTANDING

We perform non-diagnostic ultrasounds only. We request your completed routine 18-20 week diagnostic scan, ensuring that you have received results prior to your session with us.
WILL YOU PROVIDE MEASUREMENTS OF THE BABY OR ESTABLISH A DUE DATE?

No. An Early Peek Ultrasound offers a completely non-diagnostic service which does not replace any element of your prenatal care. You must be under the care of a health care provider to use our service, and we urge you to consult your health care provider if you have any concerns about your pregnancy.
WHO PERFORMS THE ULTRASOUND SESSIONS?

At An Early Peek Ultrasound, our highly skilled and registered diagnostic medical sonographer who has many years of experience will perform your ultrasound. Her efficient professionalism ensures timely, optimal imaging, making the most of your ultrasound session.
GENDER DETERMINATION

Gender determination is an optional feature and will not be disclosed to you without your request. Gender determination or confirmation, if desired, is included with all packages and can be obtained after 16 weeks of pregnancy. Adequate fetal positioning is essential to assessing the baby’s gender.
SHOULD I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE?

Yes, at An Early Peek Ultrasound we work by appointment only. This allows us to provide each person the personal and quality attention that sets us apart from the rest. Weekends and evenings are the most popular appointment times and tend to fill up quickly, so do schedule with this in mind.
WHAT PREPARATION IS NEEDED FOR MY ULTRASOUND SESSION?

Very little preparation is necessary prior to your appointment with us. Provided you do not have any dietary restrictions, we recommend you eat a small meal or snack and drink a cold beverage before your appointment, which typically awakens the baby, making for a better ultrasound session. You do not need to come on a full bladder and will be asked to empty prior to your ultrasound. Hydration is of great importance during pregnancy, with a recommended 8-12 eight ounce glasses of water per day. There is a misconception that an increase in water intake increases amniotic fluid volume, thus improving ultrasound quality. The amniotic fluid volume is a completely independent system controlled by the baby’s kidneys and cannot be increased or remedied simply by drinking water.
IS 3D ULTRASOUND SAFE?

Yes, ultrasound has been used safely in obstetrics for more than 30 years. There is no evidence of any harmful effects from the use of ultrasound technology. We believe in informed consent, and therefore offer you the following link from WebMD so that you may form your own opinion.
